Social Justice and Equity
The Social Justice and Equity Portfolio aims to explore the intersection between the law and social issues. Through education and practical experiences, this portfolio creates a law school environment that is socially conscious, inclusive and passionate about a more equitable legal community. This agenda is crucial to the law school as it creates a community that is engaged in legal issues and informed about their impact.
The Social Justice and Equity portfolio runs events that focus on key injustices and inequities within the law, and their impact on legal studies and the wider community. This includes law reform panels with academics and industry professionals, wellbeing and diversity events, and fundraising for accessible legal services. It also proudly partners with the University of Adelaide Student Health and Wellbeing office to provide free period products in ALL law school bathrooms.
Some initiatives to keep an eye out for in 2025:
Mental Health in the legal professional panel
Educational panels on developing law reform areas
Practical self-defence ‘come and try’ session
Walk for Justice fundraising and charity walk
Second-hand professional clothing donation drive
University social sports team and inter-society sports competitions
Free period product program
Wear it Purple Day event
